Women's empowerment in Jakimirya
The last few years the governments are encouraging the women self help groups in India to the betterment of their living. Living can be made good by the help of saving. Saving is very essential in life . Women play a dominant part in running the houses. Considering this point, the mahila bachat Gat or the women's saving self help groups came into existence under Umed in Maharashtra. Jakimirya is a small vilage in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra State. It was very very difficult to gather the local people, inform them about the Umed organisation and the different self help groups established under Umed, as the women who came to inform were new to this area and even they were looked upon suspiciously. But, they were fully determined and hats off to them , they have created 10 such groups of women in Jakimirya, which are fully working for last four years and entered into the fifth year on their own now . Lot of work in the rural development is being carried through them. The women in Jakimirya so successfully adopted and responded to the government that all the 10 groups have created their immediate apex body, i.e. Gram Sangh . This gram sangh , the village gram panchayat of Jakimirya and the Zillha parishad Ratnagiri are well co-ordinated and nicely working the different plans if rural development. The Gram sangh has been formed of all these ten groups and has been named as Nirmiti gram sangh. The first president selected by the group was Mrs. Neha Nitin Bhatkar. Recently she has resigned and the new president has been elected.
However, Mrs. Neha Nitin Bhatkar has continued as a President of Navalai Mahila swaymsahayyata bachat Gat, Devulwadi .
