Shimgotsav
Shimgotsav has been started . It is one of the festivals . Shimgotsav is also called as Shimga , shigmo , holi and a festival of colors. In our Konkan
region, this festival is the most important festival. Many people from the
cities like Mumbai, Pune come to their villages to celebrate this festival,
particularly they are called as “ Chakarmani” means the people who have homes
in the villages and are working in some big cities. Chakarmanies come to Jakimirya also. The people of Jakimirya are very religious
and they follow strictly the religious traditions every year. Shimgotsav is
their loved festival too. This festival starts on the very auspicious day of
Maha Shivratri .
Towards the hilltop
This year also , on this day of Maha shiv ratri, people of Jakimirya gather in the temple of Navalai Pavanai in the morning. They worship there. At eight o’clock in the morning, they start to move towards the hilltop area. There is a holy place where they make the
rituals and from where they bring a sweet water to the temple . This is called
as bringing water . This is a very old tradition of almost over 100 years now. The
way is very congested and at the one end there is a straight cliff which goes
down in the sea. You can see the sea from the top. You have to be very cautious
while walking through the narrow gap between the left and right side. Here are
